If you are in Dallas anytime....

I discovered this awesome hole-in-the-wall cafe/lounge in South Dallas yesterday while waiting for an apt. The Opening Bell cafe lounge is situated in the basement of an old run down area in Dallas clearly part of an attempt to revitalize the community. Walking down South Lamar Street, at the 1400 block I found a series of little spots, a market, a pub, and more. Among them was this little cafe lounge, all below ground, yet street accessible. Free wi-fi, great food, and live music was just the beginning. The tunnels walk way connecting each little spot to this great cafe is a trip all its own. The vintage doors cut in abstract shapes and hanging on slider racks help to create an ambiance of the beat generation where local artists & business folk can hang and visit or work. I can imagine Bob Dylan or Allen Ginsberg sitting in a dark corner jotting down some lyrics or poetry in one if the community sketch books sitting on the tables. Add to that image Jimmy LaFave or Ruthie Foster on stage working out a new song and you have the perfect spot! But wait....don't forget to add the adorable Will, the guy working behind the counter with the sweetest demeanor, ready to serve any request with a smile and a conversation. Be sure to check this place out on your next visit to the Southside Dallas area!
