Non-traditional family portrait session

I did a shoot with a family whose daughter was a client last year for her senior pictures. They are a lovely family & very accomodating. Knowing the daughter as I do, I knew some fun non-traditional perspectives would be in order. True to form, she had lots of ideas already planned out & we had great fun! I decided to play around with edits so let me know what you think!

Texas is increasing the H.S. Fine Arts Requirement...YES!

As a theatre teacher I am always concerned that my wonderful state of Texas puts WAY tooooo much emphasis on football & not enough on the arts (even other sports for that matter). So I was extatic to learn that the state is upping the anty! Now a fine arts credit will be required for ALL degree plans, not just recommended & distinguished. Not only will this help to secure my job, but the students who most need the guidance that a creative thinker can provide will no longer be able to avoid it. I get lots of kids who are "put" in my class then soon realize what fun it is & begin developing a better level of self-confidence through the work we do.

"We look in a mirror to see our face, but we look at art to see our soul."

Images from my productions of The King & I, Beauty & the Beast, Othello, Jekyll & Hyde, The Man Who Came To Dinner, and Godspell: all work seen was completed by students.

A boy and his toys!

I did a shoot with my son & dog today for fun. We spread out all his valentines he got in preschool & they played.

Happy Valentines to EVERYONE!

Well, it's been a busy week or so. The Haiti Charity Performance my students did last night was great. Today I am celebrating my 46th birthday, and getting in some play time. I hope everyone has a great Valentine's weekend!

Baby Time!!!

I got to take pictures of my cousin-in-law's new baby last weekend. I only wish my new lens had arrived. I managed to get out a few good shots despite my inequities though. I love the last one, but I worry that others will only see it as a bad crop...tell me what you think please???? Don't be afraid to be honest! Enjoy!

We have a winner! Congrats to "PamPal" for winning my first blog contest! Thanks for posting & supporting my blog to everyone who participated! Keep an eye out for my next contest.
