1st Day of School

My son is in 1st grade now. After 2 yrs of preschool, followed by Kindergarten, I was sure he was ready. As a teacher myself, I struggle with the fact that I can't participate in the schooling of my own son. Instead I am educating other peoples children. I can't complain, I have great students! I also understand, as a teacher, what kind of student I want my son to be. The dilemma is HOW do I make my son THAT student when I can't be there to help. Every year I see other parents taking their kids to their first day of school & they post their first day pictures all over the internet to share with family & friends. I can't do that. I am gone when he wakes up every morning. This year I decided I just need to archive & share what I CAN do. My mornings involve kissing his sweet sleeping face goodbye & whispering in his ear that I love him & he should be a good boy at school. Taking pictures of that is a bit tricky. I had to do this in the dark so he would not wake,  & I had to use the timer since it's essentially a self-portrait. Not the best photography, I was running late, but at least it captures what our family's first day of school is like.

An hour later, my husband woke to take our son to school. He is NOT a photographer, but he had my old camera & did a good job.

Clearly D2 did not want to go to school. Don't let his angry face fool you, when his dad picked him up after school he said to him "You should have stayed daddy. We had fun!"

Where God Lives...

All of my followers here on my blog know I am a twice bereaved parent. What very few of you all know is that I carried my oldest daughter across & personally handed her to the angels who completed the journey with her. So you can trust me when I tell you this: if you want to know where God lives put yourself somewhere in a place of peace; get lost in some music, or the soft sound of the wind in the trees, or anything that lifts you up. Close your eyes & feel the joy. THAT is where God lives, and THAT is where Heaven is.

In two weeks Cheyenne, my older daughter turns 16. In three weeks Emily, my second daughter, turns 10. They are celebrating their lives in heaven but we will be celebrating here on earth. For the month of August, here on my blog & on Facebook,  I will share with you my thoughts, feelings, & experiences they taught me. I will tell you about my journey taking Cheyenne across, I will tell you about their visits from heaven, and I will try to explain where and how I get my strength.

The recent loss of our Navy Seals, as well as the recent loss of two family members and a few others we know only through mutual friends/family have helped me to anchor myself again to that which matters most: LOVE. Open your eyes and you will begin to see it everywhere.

If you are so moved, please share this blog with others, You never know who might need the words of advice or the comfort. In the words of my dear friend & spiritual mentor, Julianna: "I love each and every one of you."

Newborn session

OK, I know I rarely post images from my photo sessions here in my blog, & I promise to do more of that as they unfold. That said, here is a sweet little two week old. She was sooooo good & tolerant of all the posing & changing we did! These are a few of my favorites. Her mom & dad love black & white photography so that's what they got.
