Floating leaves, reflections of a game...random moments

I took my camera to work today, played outside on my break after some rain, and captured a game of chess on the table in my office...

Orange Gerberas!

I loved the richness in these flowers. My life is so crazy that as each day passed after I got them I kept saying I have got to get them on camera! And each day would pass without me doing it. I finally said enough, I have to get these! They were already starting to wilt, but I got them.

Watercolor Bokeh...not software :)

I shot these leaves w/ a 100mm macro lens & created a very shallow DOF to get the look of a watercolored bokeh the natural way.

The next two are the same shot, one converted to B&W. Which do you prefer?

This little lizard...

This little lizard showed up on the back deck while I was watching my son play in the dirt. I grabbed the camera, changed the lens, & started fratically taking pictures before he took off. Only he never did! (but my son did!) He was easier to photograph than my son. He was as curious about me as I was about him. And the longer he stayed, the greener he got, like we was relaxing.

Doctor Who?

I have to give a shout out to the totally amazing team of pediatric doctors and nurses (& the amazing staff) for years of touching, personal, and warm support with my children.

Fannin Pediatrics is located in the medical center in Houston. One of the doc's there, our pediatrician, is Dr. Steve Alley. We met in 1999 during the painful loss of our oldest daughter. Rumor has it that hours before she passed she told him to sit on her bed & talk to her. She then asked him if she was going to die. She was three. He told us years later that she changed the way he practiced medicine. He became our pediatrician after the birth of our second daughter. She too passed and he was there for us through every step, staying on the phone in the days & weeks that followed her death listening to our pain. Making it his pain too. He celebrated in the birth of our very strong & healthy son, & continues to provide the best care imaginable. He listens this a mothers' instict. He trusts it too.

...but what's really amazing is that all the other members of the team there treat us with the same personal attention, love, & compassion. They don't know our history & have not shared our pain like he has, but you would never know it.

So I had to do a scrapbook page about it! (not that one page would ever tell the whole story). Here are some shots & some LO's on the subject...

First time to run in the U.S....Girl With A Pearl Earring

Hello friends! As you know, I am a high school theatre teacher & director. Once a year I am blessed with a friend (the Physics teacher at work) who directs a show in our season. This year he came across a stage production of the famed novel & film Girl With A Pear Earring. It had a successful run in London's West End Theatre district, and then closed. He contacted the playwrite & publisher, got the OK, got the script from them, & here we are! First production of it in the United States...the colleges are already asking us to give them the script so they can do it next.

We staged it in our new Kenyan-Miller Black Box theater, another first as it is the first show in there. It is very intimate and the actors are amazing. Selling out every night! Enjoy my photos. These & more will be sent to London for use in their marketing of the script. For more images of the show visit my Facebook page & invite me as a friend (it's a private page) or send me a request.

Director: Dan Kutsko
Lights, Sets, Costumes: Elizabeth Crocker
Actors shown here: Kelsey OBrient as Griet, Allie Dixon as Maria, Yahya Kahn as J. Vermeer

Shootin' & Scrappin'...a way of life.

I love to shoot pictures. I love to make scrapbooks. Thank God they go so well together! All my life I've been shooting with a camera. I brought the pictures home from the developing lab, showed them to friends then put them in a photo album where they sat so many years they would not even peel up off the page any more, not to mention the yellowing! (OK, I just mentioned it. Sorry.) Now I can take my images from my camera to my computer, then into a page that not only records the visual memory but allows me journal the story behind the shot! Who is the genious who thought this up???

I remember coming home from school when I was little & going straight to my dad's National Geographics. I know what you are thinking, but it was the boys who liked to boobie pictures...focus please...I love reading the stories about the images on every page. Where, who, what, etc... It was my escape. I'm approaching middle age, turning 46 next month. I still love my dad's NG's & steal them when I visit.

My scrapbooking lets me feel like I'm telling the story now. Watch out world! Here comes Mrs. National Geographic! .....I just wish I could get out more. (sigh)

Did you know I'm a twin???

I know, in todays world multiple births are as common as the hairs on my head, but I'm turning 46 next month. That means we arrived without help...of fertility drugs that is. We had 5 or 6 sets of twins in our senior class at high school, & I dare say none of us were fertility kids. I think fertility drugs are great, bringing joy to so many who otherwise would never know, but it's cool to say I was part of the generations that came before.
